Secrets of the Lost Gold
Since the discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard in 2009 public interest in this amazing find has continued to grow. The first National Geographic documentary, ‘Lost Gold of the Dark Ages’, placed the treasure within its historical context and explored the mysterious era of the Anglo-Saxons.
This follow-up documentary, ‘Secrets of the Lost Gold’, takes the story another step further and reveals the painstaking conservation and research involved in the pursuit of unlocking its secrets.
This new film will be shown at the museum on the big screen on Thursday 15 December with a special guest appearance by Dr Kevin Leahy, National Adviser with the Portable Antiquities Scheme who features extensively in the documentary. He and Deb Klemperer, Principal Collections Officer for Stoke Museums Service, are members of the Hoard Research Advisory Panel.
Together, they will discuss with the audience the latest findings and theories regarding the Hoard after the screening. Kevin will also be signing copies of the latest book ‘Lost Gold of the Dark Ages’, for which he wrote the introduction. As there is limited stock of this book it is important that you reserve and pay for a copy at time of booking.
At a small extra charge visitors will also have the opportunity of viewing the Hoard by torchlight and see the gold dazzling in the darkness. Places for this are extremely limited and early booking is strongly advised.
