The Kingdom of Mercia – Its Warriors and Gold (Tickets reduced to £5)
To celebrate the successful campaign to save the Staffordshire Hoard for the West Midlands The Potteries museum & Art Gallery will host two talks by leading experts associated with the discovery and its importance for the understanding of the Anglo-Saxon period.
Ian Wykes, Head of Historic Environment, Staffordshire County Council, will discuss the site where the hoard was found, including results from further recent excavations in late March, in his talk ‘Trusting the Ground with the Treasure of Warriors’.
This will be followed by a talk by Saxon expert Dr Gareth Williams from the British Museum entitled ‘The Rise and Fall of the Kingdom of Mercia’, placing the Hoard into its historical context.
These are both excellent speakers with a wealth of knowledge – don’t miss this event!
